Alison McCalla Patel's practice includes representation of individuals and businesses in matters ranging from wealth transfer and succession planning to business formation and transactions.  

A significant portion of Alison’s practice is devoted to assisting individuals in tailoring an estate plan to address their unique circumstances and desired outcome. Alison is committed to understanding her clients’ financial and family dynamics and advising them of the different solutions available to them. She assists clients with wealth and asset transfer through drafting wills and trusts, as well as advising clients on tax considerations, titling assets, beneficiary designations, transfer-on-death deeds and other probate avoidance tools. Alison is also experienced in helping clients prepare for the possibility of incapacity through trusts, powers of attorney for property and health care, and advanced directives. Additionally, in the event of the disability or death, Alison is experienced in guiding successor fiduciaries through the administration of their loved one’s trust and estate.

Alison’s practice also includes assisting clients with wide-ranging transactional matters. She is experienced in business formation, drafting business agreements, such as operating agreements, shareholder agreements, and buy-sell agreements, and negotiating and drafting purchase and sale transactions. Alison also assists many family businesses with corporate governance matters, both for legal compliance and best practices. With many clients, both individuals and businesses, having significant land and/or mineral holdings, Alison also provides frequent assistance to clients on a variety of real property matters. This includes purchase and sale transactions, lease transactions, and deed drafting.

 Additionally, Alison’s early practice focused on advising a broad base of clients, including public and private companies, tax-exempt and governmental clients of all sizes, in corporate, employee benefit and executive compensation matters. She has extensive experience reviewing, designing and drafting various forms of retirement plans (401(k), 403(b) and 457(b) plans) and advising clients on ERISA and tax compliance matters related to such plans.
